Cool Water Ranch has been selected for the Progressive Farmer magazines site of the 2007 Idea House and Farmstead. This annual project has been done in select communities in the south and is fifth such home to be built across America. The Progressive Farmer has recognized the trend of families seeking a rural lifestyle. In an effort to promote this trend, the magazine showcases a rural area through the sponsorship and building of a new country home.

Each home is built in a rural area and then made available for public viewing. A portion of the admission funds are given to a local nonprofit organization that is operating in the local community. The Gillespie County Historical Society has been selected as the charity recipient of the 2007 funds.

These new country homes are built with the most modern designs and style. The home design developed by Mark Carlson, AIA of Cornerstone Group Architects in Austin is in style of Hill Country Vernacular. The home is situated perfectly on 8 wooded acres in Cool Water Ranch and consists of 4,000 square feet of heated and cooled space, an attached Casita guest quarters, with attention to patios and porches to enjoy the outdoor setting at beautiful Cool Water Ranch. Richard Laughlin a third generation local and award winning builder, of Laughlin Homes and Restoration, Inc. was selected by Progressive Farmer to build the 2007 Idea House and Farmstead. Jennifer Eggleston has been selected as the Interior Designer for the project.
